Can’t Keep em Off!

I don’t even know where to begin. After the first few fishing trips where we came home empty handed, it has been nothing but bliss the last few trips. So much for the old mantra of fishing: Relaxing, Drinking Beer. It has been non stop every time I’m out. It is extremely busy when out fishing. Either its checking the lures for weeds every 15 minutes, changing to a different lure or hauling in a fish.

I must say tho, I’ve taken a vastly different approach to Salmon fishing this year. Instead of putting on one lure and trolling around for hours on end, I now change up my lure and depth every 15 minutes or less. And it works. I’ve hit my daily limit of Chinook and Coho more than once in the past 2 weeks. Its been fun and our freezer is starting to fill up. My parents have eaten fresh salmon filets for the last 4 days in a row. I think they’re starting to get bored of Salmon. How awesome is that?

I’m at a total of 8 salmon for this year. Most seasons I’ve been lucky to bring home one. The only other time this has happened was when Ash and I first met. During that first fall, we managed to haul in a butt load of Salmon as well, albeit much smaller.

Some pictures from the last week.

My new-old 1987 trolling motor. This thing is legitimate and gets the job done for cheap!

About time this boat got bloody!

I am very well setup now. Our old cooler goes on the back swim grid to contain the mess. The outboard sits on the other side and in the middle, I have a great place to fight the fish from. I never thought this boat would be so awesome for fishing. It is truly a great platform to work from.

Just figured out how to properly filet Salmon. In reality, its not really that hard. Just need a really sharp filet knife and a nice counter to work on.
