It seems nothing has been happening on this blog. Utter silence. In actuality, a lot has been going on. First, the a mundane exercise of eliminating “stuff” and second, putting low-ball offers on boats.
We tried to offer 50K less on one catamaran only to realize it was already under contract for 10K under asking. Quickly found another catamaran only to find out an offer was accepted yesterday. The problem is we are coming into cruising season. Hurricane season is coming to an end and people are starting to shop (and buy) boats. It’s not ideal. Frustrating to be exact. We want to start cruising asap and waiting for the absolutely perfect boat could take 6+ months. Not really realistic. So we’re looking at a variety of compromises; Model, price, year or layout.
Compromising on the boat layout doesn’t make all too much sense. If we’re going to live on this thing for many years to come, then any compromise is something we will have to live with every single day. Coming up in price might be the better answer. Mostly because you can always make more money. Some of our requirements…
1. Owner’s version. That implies three cabins. One pontoon is dedicated to the owners. One bedroom and (large) bathroom. The other pontoon is dedicated to guests with two bedrooms and one (small) bathroom.
2. A 38′ catamaran. Specifically a Lagoon 380.
3. An S2 Lagoon 380. These are the second series which have more windows and are generally updated inside.
All three of these combinations would not only make the living space more pleasant, but also hold resale value much higher. Will we find it? I really don’t know. Pickings are slim.
