We left with the forecast calling for 20-25 knots, which is uncomfortable yet manageable. We knew we were in for a surprise when it hit 35 knots. It’s not uncommon to have a burst of wind at sunrise and sunset while sailing offshore. Nature is always seeking equilibrium. Our boat, a 41 foot catamaran, does well in most conditions. But there is a certain sea state when the waves are steep and the period short where it just simply struggles. Life is turned upside down inside. We grit our teeth and hope it’s over soon…
